Pedal Power Hawai'i was started in 2013 by the Atkins 'Ohana. The project introduces a sustainable alternative to powering public events. We use bicycle energy to power film, music, books, and art to educate and strengthen communication within our schools and the grassroots community.
Weʻve brought the bikes to schools across the Pae 'Āina to teach kids about electricity, fossil fuels, and sustainability. The students get to ride the bikes and learn how much human energy it takes to power our daily needs. This hands-on experience leaves a lasting impact on the way keiki look at energy usage.
Got the chance of a lifetime to give a TEDx talk at UH-Mānoa about Pedal Power!!!
We got to power this epic music video out on the North Shore with one of the best humans alive, Ron Artis II.
Honored to have a booth at the 2014 Jack Johnson Concert where we unleashed the pedal power bikes to the world!
Stoked to be able to power awesome musicians like Mike Love, Sam Ites, Paula Fuga, and Paul Izak during earth week. Met some awesome people down to ride the bikes to power these conscious musicians and feel guilt free about the energy we're using.
We wanted to see if the bike would bring energy awareness to our students and sure enough.....
